About Georgia Vascular Clinic

Georgia Vascular Clinic (GVC), a pioneer in the vascular surgery industry, has offered state-of-the-art vascular care in the Atlanta area since 1968.

GVC has the distinction of offering its patients all forms of vascular treatment – including medical management, endovascular techniques, and open surgery – which is unique to the specialty of vascular surgery. The practice is also committed to the long-term medical care of its patients. Several current patients first visited GVC in the early 1980’s.

Dr. Douglass G. Whitney founded GVC in 1968, before vascular surgery was considered a common specialty among surgeons. Dr. Whitney brought this previously rare practice to prominence in the Atlanta area.

GVC was the first practice in Atlanta to offer vital vascular surgery procedures such as carotid endarterectomy, abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, and VNUS closure procedures for the treatment of varicose and spider veins. Dr. Douglass Whitney played an integral part in the development of diagnostic angiography and therapeutic catheter-based interventions by vascular surgeons in the Atlanta area.

For over 25 years, GVC has worked in conjunction with St. Joseph’s Hospital – a renowned leader in vascular and cardiovascular treatment. GVC was the first vascular surgery group at St. Joseph’s to perform carotid stenting and aortic stent grafts. Dr. Douglass Whitney’s son, Dr. Brooks Whitney, was the first physician at St. Joseph’s approved to perform carotid stenting.

GVC’s vascular lab is accredited by The Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories (ICAVL), and offers in-office ultrasound scans, which increase patient convenience and rapid diagnosis.

In 1991, GVC moved its main office to the St. Joseph's Hospital medical campus. Dr. Joseph Zarge joined the practice in 1997.

The practice now also offers convenient satellite locations in Alpharetta, Blairsville, Blue Ridge, and Canton.

The combined experience of its vascular surgeons and clinical staff, along with its track record for state-of-the-art treatment options and clinical research, makes the practice second to none in the Atlanta area.
